When (and where) is WASTECON 2008?

WASTECON 2008 will be held October 21-23, 2008 (training starts October 18th) at the Tampa Convention Center, in Tampa, Florida. 

 

How do I register and pay to attend?

There are several ways to register for WASTECON:

    Is WASTECON held in the same place every year?
    No, WASTECON moves to a different location every year.  We try to showcase a different region each year and give different SWANA Chapters the opportunity to host the association's premier event. 

    Future WASTECONs will be held in:

    • Long Beach, California: September 22-24, 2009

    What should I wear at WASTECON?
    SWANA's WASTECON is a business casual/casual event; jackets and ties are not required.  If you will be attending some of the social events, we do recommend the following:

    • Family Tours: Casual attire; whatever you will be comfortable wearing while sitting or climbing off and on a bus for several hours.  A coat may be required in case of inclement weather.
    • Facility Tours: Casual attire; remember you are visiting working sites, therefore open-toed shoes, skirts, and shorts are not recommended.  A coat may be required in case of inclement weather.
    • Opening Reception: Wear your tropical shirts and sundresses, flip-flops, shorts, sun glasses, bathing suits! 
    • Wednesday Nite Event: Very casual attire; NO jackets or ties. 

     

    Do I have to pay just to visit the exhibitor's hall?

    Admission to the exhibitor's hall is free.  Before entering, all you have to do is register at the customer service desk to receive your Show Only Free Pass.

     

    What should I bring to WASTECON?

    • Lots of Business Cards: You'll have the chance to meet a lot of other Solid Waste Professionals with whom you'll want to keep in touch after the show.
    • RFPs: You'll have the chance to review products you are planning to purchase over the next year with exhibitors, consultants, and other attendees who have made similar purchases.   
    • Project Specs:  You'll be able to talk and compare notes with other attendees and consultants regarding projects that you'll be undertaking in the next year. 

    Can I register on-site?

    Yes, you may register and pay for WASTECON at our registration desk once in Tampa, however, we recommend registering in advance both to take advantage of the early registration discount, and to avoid the rush and crowds once at WASTECON. Online registration is also available at additionally discounted rates.

    Where should I stay?

    The Marriott-Tampa Waterside Hotel (Conference Headquarters Hotel), the Embassy Suites Tampa- Downtown, the Westin Tampa Harbour Island and the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay  are all conveniently located near WASTECON.  Room reservations are currently being taken, to register, click here.

    Who teaches the training courses and technical sessions offered at WASTECON?

    Our training courses and technical sessions are taught by top industry professionals with hands-on experience in their field, whom SWANA has added to its vast network of contacts over the years.  For a complete listing of instructors and their places of business, please see our registration brochure.

    At what time of day are WASTECON events scheduled?

    WASTECON events begin at 7:00 a.m. every morning, and on certain days can last until 10:30 p.m.  See our registration brochure or click here for a schedule of events to plan out your trip to WASTECON and decide which events you would like to attend.

     

    Can I use my trip to WASTECON to get SWANA Certified or earn CEUs toward my SWANA Re-Certification?

    ABSOLUTELY!  Testing times and the number of CEU's available is outlined in our WASTECON registration brochure.  

     

    What kinds of "extras" are offered at WASTECON?

    WASTECON offers a host of social and "networking" events, which in the past have included: Monday Night Football, Casino Night, 70’s Disco Extravaganza, Biker Party, and other relaxing, fun-filled activities.
